Alan Bates

Alan Bates graduated in Law from Christ's College, Cambridge University with first class honours and was awarded the University's Clive Parry Prize for International Law. He was a scholar of Christ's College which twice awarded him the De Hart Prize for Public Law. He then served as a research assistant at the Law Commission of England and Wales where he worked on an audit of the compatibility of the English law of bail with the UK's Human Rights Act. He obtained the degree of Master of Laws in 2002 at the University of Pennsylvania where he was a Thouron scholar, specialising in comparative constitutional law and the interaction between environmental concerns with the law of international trade. Alan's legal interests include public, constitutional and elections law, civil liberties, human rights, and comparative competition law.


 
Krishna Ramachandra

Krishna read law at Leeds and undertook his professional qualifications in London. After completing his Master of Laws at Christ's College, Cambridge, Krishna worked as a corporate finance lawyer at leading international law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer for several years in London. During his time with Freshfields, he was involved in cross-border mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance transactions. He was also involved in telecommunications, media and technology slanted transactions. Since returning to Singapore, Krishna has acted as legal consultant for several technology companies. He is currently practising as a corporate finance lawyer with Clifford Chance in Singapore.

Yu Qixian

Leon pursued his law degree at Christ's College, Cambridge University and has since worked for top international law firms, both in Singapore and Hong Kong. Prior to that, he was doing strategy consulting for a leading Singapore SME and advised on its debt-restructuring as well. He is currently practising as a corporate finance lawyer with an international law firm.

He was the founding President of Cambridge University Asian Lawyers Association.

Andrew Khoo
Fellow in Law

Prior to working as a General Manager of a leading London Hotel, Andrew worked for Marriott Management Services in Seattle, where he also graduated with an MBA. Andrew is currently the Corporate Affairs Director for both the Corus Hotels group and Laura Ashley. He also sits on the board of several listed companies.

Andrew graduated from Robinson College, Cambridge University with a law degree. He was also past President of the Cambridge University Asian Lawyers Association.

Trevor Ng
Fellow in Engineering

Trevor holds a Master in Engineering (Aeronautics) from Hughes Hall, Cambridge University and has worked for a number of engineering companies both in Singapore and Hong Kong.

At present, he is pursuing his PhD in Aeronautics & Astronautics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and advises Cambridge Alliance on any technology-related matters

Chian Yieh-Lim

Chian Yieh read Manufacturing Engineering at Christ's College, Cambridge University. His work experiences within the UK Manufacturing Industry include companies such as Invensys and Grant Instruments, dealing with business strategy and manufacturing systems issues.

He has just finished his working sabbatical with a European Commission funded project on Futures of Industrial Approaches in Electronics Manufacturing Industry with the Institute of Manufacturing, Cambridge. His other work experience includes Change Management with Accenture.




 
Karen Tong
Fellow in Law

Karen Tong graduated in Law from Downing College, Cambridge University in 2000 and topped the Department with first class honours both in her second and final year Tripos and was awarded the University's Slaughter & May Prize 2000 for best overall performance, and the College's Senior Jarvis Scholarship. Karen studied Natural Sciences in her first year in Cambridge and obtained a first honours before pursuing her interests in Law.

After her graduation in 2000, she took the professional certificates in law exam in Hong Kong and was awarded the Baker & McKenzie Postgraduate Prize 2001, the YM Wong Memorial Prize 2001, the Brian McElney Medel in Law 2001 and the Bloomsbury Books Prize in Law 2001. She then commenced her legal career in 2001 with international law firm Clifford Chance in Hong Kong.


 

Shao Ming Thein

Shao Ming Thein is an investment banker in the Real Estate group of the Blackstone Group and is based in London. Since joining Blackstone in 2002, Mr. Thein has been involved in Blackstone's Real Estate activities in the UK and in Italy.

Mr. Thein received a Bachelors degree in Engineering from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, where he graduated with first class honors and was awarded the Governor's Prize for the most outstanding academic performance. He was then awarded a full-paying Citibank scholarship for his MPhil in Management Studies at Queens' College, Cambridge University.




 
Yen Lee Heng
Fellow in Management

Yen Lee read Chemical Engineering at Christ's College, Cambridge University and also Management Studies at the Judge Institute of Management.

She joined Accenture with their Strategy Consulting group based in Singapore and has advised multinational companies within the financial services, telecommunication and government sectors on a broad range of issues. Her work includes advising on customer relationship management, business strategy, change management and system implementation issues. Prior to joining Accenture, she had worked in London with both KPMG Consulting and Goldman Sachs.

Ramesh Ramachandra (Entrepreneuship)

Ramesh is recognised as one of the emerging breed of entrepreneurs in "Singapore Savvy - 50 Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow". In July 2001, she was named by Asiaweek as "one of the most influential women in Asia". She has an MBA from Stern Business School, NYU.

Previously at Technowledge Asia Group Pte Ltd as its Chief Executive Officer, she was instrumental in growing the business, setting up its regional offices and managing its 80 professionals in four countries. She also managed the company's public listing application and undertook several business mergers.

Ramesh's current company, 3R Holdings Pte Ltd, provides mentoring and coaching on business vision, leadership and change management to entrepreneurs and corporates in Asia Pacific.

Practising Lawyers

Various locally and foreign trained legal practitioners will be appointed by the Centre to conduct some of the lectures and workshops.
